Our national team at the World Table Tennis Championships has booked its best result in 20 years with three bronze medals in men’s and women’s doubles.

Spearheading the medal hunt was the women’s doubles.

The tandem of Jeon Jeon-hee and Shin Yubin, last year’s European champions and the world’s third-ranked pair, dominated the rallying battle.

They went on to win 3-0 to reach the semifinals and secure the bronze medal at the World Championships, which had no third- or fourth-place matches.

It’s been 12 years since a women’s doubles medal.

“Of course!”

“I think it was a good idea to wait until Yoo Bin was older, she’s grown up well.”

“It’s good that she eats well and seems to be growing up well, and I think our biggest strength is that I can play comfortably because I have an older sister.”

The women’s doubles team responded to the women’s victory with a win of their own.

Last year’s runners-up, Jang Woo-jin and Lim Jong-hoon, cruised to the semifinals, while Lee Sang-soo and Cho Dae-sung beat defending champions Sweden to reach the quarterfinals, setting up a possible final showdown between our players.

“I think everyone here is thinking about it (the final matchup) that way, and no matter who we play or how we play, we’ll have to make sure we’re prepared and have the skills we need to do.”

While the men’s and women’s singles encountered a Chinese wall, the team secured three bronze medals in doubles alone, booking its best finish in 20 years in terms of medal count.
