SSG Landers manager Kim Won-hyung and Doosan Bears manager Lee Seung-yeop will enter the All-Star break a day early due to the rain cancellation of the final game of the first half.

The KBO decided to rain-cancel Game 10 of the 2023 Shinhan Bank SOL KBO League between SSG and Doosan, which was scheduled to be held at SSG Landers Field in Incheon on Wednesday.

The Incheon area had been experiencing heavy rainfall since the previous day. The rainy season has been sweeping across the country, and it was expected that the game would be canceled early. KBO Commissioner Kim Si-jin, who was dispatched to the site, made the decision to cancel the game at 3:40 p.m. after considering the ground conditions and weather forecast.

SSG head coach Kim Won-hyung was more lighthearted about the decision to quickly cancel the game and conducted an official interview. He didn’t seem to mind the rain, as the team’s main hitters, Choi Jung and Heredia, were out of the lineup due to injuries and personal reasons, and the team’s mood had sunk due to a recent losing streak.메이저놀이터

“It was unintentional, but it gave the players a chance to recharge at a time when they needed a break,” said Kim Won-hyung. “If we had played the last game of the first half with a very low mood, it would have been difficult in many ways, but I think we can create a different atmosphere with a fresh mind because of the rain.”

SSG dropped its second straight game the previous day with a 1-4 come-from-behind loss to Doosan. Ace Kim Kwang-hyun pitched 6⅓ scoreless innings, but was knocked down by bullpen struggles and a slumping batting lineup.

For manager Kim Won-hyung, it’s not a bad result to have the rain interrupt the flow and prepare for the first game of the second half against the LG Twins on April 21. SSG players also went straight to work after the game was canceled, as they did not hold outdoor training due to the rain.

Doosan, which is on a nine-game winning streak, was not in a much different position than SSG. Their quest for a 10-game winning streak has been pushed back to the first game of the second half against the KIA Tigers on the 21st, but they will enjoy the extra day of rest.

For Doosan, the extra day of sweet rest is a positive, as their main bullpen of Kim Myung-shin, Chung Chul-won, and Hong Gun-hee were less fatigued at the end of the first half.

Doosan manager Lee Seung-yeop said, “When it rains like this, we have no choice but to cancel. We always prepare as if we’re going to play, but there are so many variables in the weather,” he said, adding, “I think it’s good that the players didn’t train and had a longer rest period since the rainout was canceled.”

In the case of Kim Won-hyung and Lee Seung-yup, they will travel to Busan to participate in the 2023 KBO All-Star Game, which will be held at Sajik Baseball Stadium on May 15. Kim Won-hyung will be the Dream All-Star commander, leading the best players in the KBO to meet the fans.
