Cheon Shin-il (80), Chairman of CJ Group, donated 10 million won to the Yangsan Mulgigo in Gyeongnam, which is making waves at the Cheongnyonggi High School Baseball Championship. Chairman Chun was born in Busan and graduated from Gyeongnam High School, so he has no connection with Yangsan Mulgeumgo. However, he decided to sponsor the team after being impressed by the TV broadcast of the eight-year-old upstart team’s upset victory over Masango in the round of 16 at the Cheongryonggi, and its semifinal victory over baseball’s prestigious Chungam-go in the quarterfinals. Chun has shown a steady interest in sports, serving as an executive committee member of the International Wrestling Federation and vice president of the Korean Sports Federation. “It was inspiring to see Mulmungo’s athletes compete in the national tournament despite the harsh conditions,” Chun said, “and I wanted to help them in a small way by purchasing training supplies.”

Mulgeumgo opened in 2006, so the school has a short history, and the baseball team was founded in 2015. At the time, Wondong Middle School in Yangsan won the presidential pennant for two consecutive years, so the baseball team was created at the initiative of Yangsan City and the city education office to prevent the outflow of local baseball talent. However, there is no indoor training field, let alone a dedicated baseball field, so when it rains, the team has to borrow a training field used by a local community baseball team. They usually train at a vacant baseball field owned by Pusan National University in Yangsan, but the mound and grass are not in good condition. “We are very grateful to Chairman Chun for recognizing the fighting spirit of our children who are struggling in a difficult environment,” said Lee Jong-in, principal of Mulmungo. “We will guide them well so that they can repay us with better performances.”토토사이트
